I was just doing random stuff when suddenly this game came into my mind, I had forgotten the name and looked for it and finally found the game: Gorillas.bas
This game is pretty much the predecessor of games like Worms and Gunbound.
This game is very basic (it’s made in a program called qBasic), all you really do is set the player names, score and gravity. Look at the arrow to decide what the wind strength will be and throw bananas at the opponent.
It’s pretty amazing that you can actually destroy the whole environment in such an old game (don’t expect to see glass shards flying everywhere though).
Well, there’s not really much else to explain about this game, so here’s just some gameplay footage (recorded by me! ^^):
If you want, you can play the game as a flash game here:

Bionic Commando Rearmed
With the new Bionic Commando game coming out, Capcom decided to remake the original Bionic Commando and if you ask me, they did a outstanding job at doing so.
Story:
You can’t really expect much of a story from a remake of such an old game, but it still has a kinda interesting story, you’re a soldier with a Bionic arm on a mission to rescue a guy named Super Joe from an enemy army. Every time you start or finish a new level your character (named Spencer) will talk to his chopper pilot about stuff he found out and items like weapons or chips he obtained.
The story isn’t amazing but there’s not really any need for any story, but for what’s there, it works.
8/10
Graphics: The graphics are actually very amazing, even though you play in a 2D perspective, the character models, animations and backgrounds are amazing. Every stage has a unique design and feel to it, you’ll go from heavily guarded docks to underground bases in an antarctic kinda location to high tech laboratories.
Every time you start a level you’re dropped off by a parachute and in some stages, the view you have, even if it’s only for a few seconds, is amazing.
The animations run very smooth and the particle effects that are used are great.
8/10
Music:
The music in this game is absolutely amazing, right when I started the game up I was greeted by a prologue with a great remix of an 8-bit tune that, was kinda like a mix between 8-bit and modern soundtracks.
The music used in the various stages is amazing aswell, I don’t think I can really explain this with words so I’ll just let you listen to what I think is one of the best tracks of the game
Usually with remakes, the music that gets remade may not sound very good or just not as good as the original, but with this game, the music sounds just as good and maybe even better than the original soundtrack.
10/10
Gameplay:
Ofcourse, the most important aspect of any game, the gameplay.
The Bionic arm is not just a gimmick, it plays a huge role in the gameplay, it’s technically your jump button, you’ll use it to get up on ledges, prevent yourself from falling into pits, pick up barrels to throw at people, or pick the people themselves up and use them as a human shield. Many of the bosses also need you to make use of the arm which makes the bosses challenging and fun to fight against.
Besides your arm, you have your guns, you start out with a simple single-shot rifle gun that shoots 1 bullet every time (a max of 2 bullets can be on the screen with this gun) but later on you’ll get weapons like laser guns, rocket launchers and other goodies.
I think they improved alot on the gameplay, I have to admit, I actually didn’t really like the old Bionic Commando that much, I don’t know why but I just didn’t. However I absolutely love the way this remake plays.
10/10
Overall:
Overall I think this remake is the best remake I’ve ever seen, they improved the graphics, the music and gameplay all while still staying true to the original game.
If any company is planning to remake a game, they should look at this game first to see how it should be done.
If you liked the original Bionic Commando you should definitely try this out and even if you didn’t like the original Bionic Commando very much (like me) you should still try it out.
I give Bionic Commando Rearmed a 9/10 and I can’t wait to see how the new Bionic Commando game will turn out.
PS: I never give games a 10/10 because there’s always room for improvement, although with this game, it seems like there’s no need for any improvement at all.
Yay, we’re back after… a half year of inactivity ^^’
But anyway, we’re back for real now (although I doubt anybody really cares, who reads this blog anyway!?). We’re currently kinda planning out things we wanna do like reviews, broad/podcasts and other things but yeah, expect some updates soon-ish!
